Grateful Dead 1990-07-21 World Music Theatre; Tinley Park, IL

This is one of my all time favorite shows. First set is a nice mix of Bob, Jerry tunes with a little Brent thrown in for good measure. Brent really shines on Walkin' Blues and Friend of a Devil. We also get a nice Bird Song to round out this set.
The second set is where this show really shines. The Scarlet > Fire are absolutely blistering versions with great playing by Garcia and lots of fine interplay between Bob, Jerry and Brent. Bobby is in fine form on Playing and Jerry is picking his heart away. They flow into He's Gone like the songs belong together and the He's Gone really has some emotion to it, almost as if they knew Brent would pass away in a couple of weeks. We get a standard Miracle out of space and then a very rare Crazy Fingers in this spot of the show. Dear Mr. Fantasy has always been one of my favorite covers and I really enjoy this one. They leave the Hey Jude playing out of this and it's just the way I like it. A rocking little Playin' reprise into One More Saturday Night. The Mighty Quinn for an encore makes for a mighty fine show. Check it out and turn it up! Enjoy. Joey

  1. I sat on the lawn for this show and hated it. Until, much later I heard the bootlegs and realized what a great show it really was. Free advice never sit on the lawn at this venue.
